The Path of Sustainability

PhD thesis

The Path Sustainability is a PhD Project within PON Italian program, Green Topics, concerning Geotrails. The aim is to work in a mountain territory - Alagna Valsesia (VC), Italy - to foster the Sustainable Development in the area focusing on Geodiversity and Geoheritage celebration, promotion and protection.

Alagna Valsesia is included into the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geopark boundaries and is at the foot of Monte Rosa massif. In these mountain areas, particularly affected by climate change, it is foundamental study the Geodiversity to understand the Earth evolution and the heritage preserved in geological and geomorphological processes for enhancement and conservation.

The final goal of the Project is to create a Geotrail to highlight the Human-Nature relation that have been existing in the territory from the past to increase the awareness on the importance and fragility of geological and geomorphological heritage. The Geotrail has as final pourpose to stimulate the Geoturism, in order to differentiate the tourism offer of the region and implementing action of Sustainable Development. 

The project has an international dimension, as evidenced by the presence of a co-tutorship involving the University of Turin (Italy) and the Université Savoie Mont Blanc (France)
